West Virginia University Press is pleased to announce Radical Natures, a new book series edited by David Correia, Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro, Mazen Labban, and Judith Watson.

Copublished with Capitalism Nature Socialism, one of the world’s leading journals in critical studies of the environment, Radical Natures is dedicated to publishing compact books about timely issues at the intersection of nature and society. It will feature original titles that critique capitalist ideas, practices, and policies, and envision socio-ecological alternatives aimed at building egalitarian futures. Books in the series will be accessibly written with scholars, students, and activists in mind. We are willing to consider books of any length and format: extended essays, photo essays, monographs, and edited volumes.

Radical Natures will draw on expertise from a range of scholarly disciplines, with a particular emphasis on geography and environmental studies. Specific topics for series books may include: animals and farming; biodiversity; decolonization and indigenous peoples; financialization; land degradation; biotechnology; planetary urbanization; “greenwashing”; ecological history; alternative consumption; environmental skills and learning; protests and social movements; and violence and militarism.

Series editors:

David Correia is associate professor of American studies at the University of New Mexico and the author of Properties of Violence: Law and Land Grant Struggle in Northern New Mexico. He is a senior editor at Capitalism Nature Socialism.

Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro is associate professor of geography at SUNY New Paltz and the author of Ecology, Soils, and the Left: An Eco-Social Approach. He is chief editor of Capitalism Nature Socialism.

Mazen Labban is visiting assistant professor of geography at Rutgers University and senior editor at Capitalism Nature Socialism. He is author of Space, Oil, and Capital and co-author of Unholy Trinity: The IMF, World Bank and WTO.

Judith Watson is senior lecturer in geography at the University of Brighton’s School of Environment and Technology and serves as reviews editor of Capitalism Nature Socialism. She teaches the only course on geographies of education in UK higher education and is compiling a textbook based on that course.

Proposals typically consist of 1) a short overview of the book with lightly annotated table of contents, sense of competing work, and projected timeline for completion; 2) a short biography of the author; and 3) a writing sample (intro or draft chapter).
